This morning I woke up to find out that my social media account was buzzing because Texas Senator Ted Cruz (supposedly) liked a pornography video last night on Twitter.
So I tested out my fact checking skills to decide if this really happened. I heard about this from a Facebook post shared by Occupy Democrats
I clicked the link on the Facebook post which took me to the article on occupydemocrats.com
I read the article, but I felt like it only gave me snippets of the full story, so I did a Google search for “Ted Cruz liked porn Twitter.”
The first three pages of results were items no less than 12 hours old, most of which were only 2-6 hours old. This made me think it could be true since so many organizations wrote about this including The Huffington Post and NY Daily Times. I consider these two pretty reliable.
Both of those websites also included screenshots of what Ted’s page looked like before he unliked the video. This is what it looks like now:
So the “like” is gone now. However, I discovered that @SexuallPosts made a comment on Ted’s “like”:
I’d say this really happened. After reading the class textbook, I felt better prepared to factcheck this situation. There is a section in the book about digging up deleted tweets, but there’s no guide for viewing previous likes, which would have been helpful for my purposes here.
